The Left finally dug up what they thought was 'dirt' on Sheriff Babeu, and released it under the cover of bogus charges from a supposed ex-boyfriend who claimed Babeu threatened to 'reveal his immigration status.' Turns out dude's an American citizen, so it's puzzling what Sheriff Babeu was purportedly going to 'reveal.' But, like most Leftist accusations, it doesn't have to make any sense--just throw up a sensational headline and race on to the next one before everyone finds out the first one was a load of crap.
Anyway, Sheriff Babeu's reaction to being outed was basically, "Yeah, I'm gay. Now you know. Let's move on." Well, we of the Tea Party, seething cauldrons of Right-wing homophobia that we are,
OK, let me explain this one more time. Being gay may be what you are, just like being a certain color, gender or ancestry, but it isn't supposed to be who you are. Sexuality is simply one of the many qualities that go into the makeup of an individual. If you base your entire existence upon one quality, be that your sexuality, your race, your gender or whatever, then you have serious issues and are likely mentally unstable.
Sheriff Babeu recognizes this. He never made any issue of his sexuality. He didn't campaign in a feather boa as The First Openly Gay Sheriff Of Whatever. He didn't go to insane lengths to hide it, like marrying a fake wife while frequenting bathhouses on the down-low. He simply didn't make it anyone else's business, and that's what any real Conservative respects. And while some of my fellows raise an eyebrow at the pics he sent to his boyfriend, I maintain they're still far more tasteful than (married) Rep. Weiner tweeting pics of his junk to women who may or may not have even wanted to see them.
So, why did the Left's attack fail? It's about honesty and decorum, Oppressives...two concepts that you'd do well to analyze and possibly even apply to your own lives. It doesn't hurt, trust me.
(And yes, I used the 'Conservative Hotties' label because he's a damn good-looking guy. So there.)
Very well said.
