"Close" doesn't cover it

This young officer likely needs a change of shorts!

  1. Suspect was found dead from his wounds a short distance down the road. Glad the officer is alright.

That being said, we use these videos as training tools. When this first hit I called in all of my rookies (e.g. those with less than five years experience) and asked them what the officer did wrong.

Everyone of 'em told me, "He's looking around instead of at the driver."

    Yeah, but what else?

    None of 'em got it.

The officer is holding his flashlight in his right hand. His gun hand. Notice his reaction where he swipes at the suspect's weapon with his flashlight. Instinct, reacting to something he never expected would ever happen. Then notice how long it took him to free his gun hand. Rather than just dropping the light and drawing his gun, he took the time to transition the flashlight from his right to left hand. Valuable time. Time that could have resulted in his death.

    Pay attention, Rookies.
